What is Certificate III in Individual Support?

The Cert III in Individual Support is a qualification to train people to work in community and residential settings and provide person centred support to people who may require additional care due to ageing, living with disability, or some other reason. The training prepares workers to follow an individualised support plan for the client, often as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Taught by our expert team of highly qualified trainers, the course is suitable for a range of different career pathways providing care services to the elderly, or people living with disability.

The Certificate has two possible specialisations, which further qualify participants to work in specific types of care fields. These options are:

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support – Disability
  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support – Ageing Support

CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support Disability

The Disability specialisation provides participants with the skills to work with people who require support due to living with disability. It provides specialised training to assist clients with ongoing skills development (using a strengths-based approach), how to support the person with community participation and social inclusion, and how to work effectively in a disability support role.

It’s suitable for a wide range of contexts, from someone who works within a community disability support group through to a professional disability support worker.

CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support Ageing Support

The Ageing Support specialisation trains students to work with people needing additional care due to advanced age or age-related health issues. It’s suitable for working in contexts from general aged care services through to specialised palliative care settings. It also provides specific training for working with and providing individualised support to people living with dementia.

Some FAQs By Our Students

There are some equipment and resources the student will need access to throughout the duration of the course. Students will need:

  • A laptop or personal computer with a stable connection to the internet
  • A mobile phone
  • A personal email address
  • Access to Microsoft Office software (or a close equivalent).

The Certificate III in Individual Support is assessed through three main methods:

  • Tests, quizzes and other in-class written questions
  • Assignments, including projects and case studies
  • Trainer observation and practical skills assessments in the class or simulated workplace

A student must successfully complete all assessment activities to achieve a unit of competence in the course.

Yes. If any student fails to achieve a satisfactory performance in one of the formal assessments, they will be given one additional chance to complete the assessment.

Currently it is not possible to do both versions of the Certificate III in Individual Support as a single course - most notably because the 120-hour work placement is specific to the context of the course. So a student studying the Disability stream may be working alongside disability support workers and assisting clients with autism spectrum disorder or a chronic disease, while a student completing the Ageing Support stream may be assisting an aged care worker or personal care giver to help an elderly client, learning falls prevention strategies and a palliative approach to care.

However, a student who has already completed one stream of CHC33021 certificate can apply for credit transfer for the units they have already completed. This would mean they would only need to complete three elective units and the work placement component to complete the other stream.

Solis College is a recognised Australian RTO (#45902) and CRICOS provider (04050B), and the Certificate III in Individual Support is a nationally recognised training package under the National Register of Vocational Education and Training. The certificate will be recognised in all Australian states and territories.
