What is the Certificate IV in Ageing Support?

This qualification equips students to work in the aged care sector, providing person centred services and individual support in a residential, home, or community based aged care setting. They are also trained to complete specialised tasks, which may include individual service planning, implementing falls prevention strategies, and in some circumstances adopting a palliative approach to personal support.

Students are trained to work within defined organisation guidelines, following safe work practices for the aged care industry without the need for direct supervision. They are also equipped to lead other support workers where needed.

What Our Students Say About Us

How is the course presented?

The class is presented in a hybrid format, with both face-to-face instruction and some self-paced learning materials which students complete at their own speed. The in-class component of the training is delivered by expert instructors with a range of methods – catering for a variety of learning styles. The classes will include:

  • Engaging, lecture-style presentations
  • Practical in-class demonstrations and guided practice
  • Projects and other assignment tasks – both individually and working in groups

In addition, you will be required to undertake a practical placement, working with industry professionals providing direct client care services in an active aged care environment.

How long will it take to complete the CHC43015 course?

The Certificate IV in Ageing Support will take a total of 26 weeks of full-time study to complete, including all in-class training, assessments, and the 120-hour practical placement.

How much time will I need to invest each week?

To study the Cert IV in Ageing Support with Solis College, you will need to be able to commit at least 20 hours a week to studying the course – excluding holidays.

In addition, to complete the practical placement component of the course, you must be available for a full three-week period. You should be prepared to be on-site at your placement from 9am-5pm from Monday to Friday – a total of three full-time working weeks.

If you have difficulties with your time availability you can contact us to discuss possibilities. But we can’t guarantee you a work placement if are not available to participate in one.

Can I get credit for subjects I've studied before?

Pathways to Employment

In 2022, the Certificate IV in Ageing Support had the  sixth-highest employment change rate after training of any Australian VET course – doing the course improved a graduate’s odds of finding a job by over 25%. Graduates of the course had a 91.17% chance of finding employment after graduation.

Even this is a little low as far as Solis College is concerned –  we’re very proud of our 97.6% graduate employment rate.

Solis College works hard to provide students with the best training and opportunities possible, and we delight in hearing the success stories of past students as they launch into new careers. Many students are offered employment at the same locations where they do their practical placement, and our students are well-regarded within the aged care industry.

What other courses could help me work in care or community services?

In addition to the Ageing Support certificate, Solis College has a range of courses and qualifications that can help you find work in the care and community service industries. Some of the other courses we have on offer are:

CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support

This course provides the skills and training for graduates to support people living with disability – both through providing direct assistance, and by helping them towards greater independence and community participation. Graduates are trained to work with little or no supervision and can supervise teams of other workers.

This course shared training modules with the Certificate IV in Ageing Support, meaning if you have completed one you may be eligible for credit transfer when studying the other, allowing you to complete the course in a quicker time.

CHC52021 – Diploma of Community Services

This qualification trains students to work in community services, and equips them with specialised skills such as program coordination and case management. They can respond to complex problems, and locate key information when needed. Graduates can work independently with only broad oversight from senior management, and may be called upon to lead teams of other staff.
