What is the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management?

This qualification equips students to apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in management and leadership across a range of business and industry contexts. Students are trained to use initiative and judgement in planning and coordinating both their own workload, and that of other staff.

How is the course presented?

The Leadership & Management diploma is presented in a hybrid format, blending conventional in-class instruction with self-paced learning using online training resources. This allows students to study from the comfort of home where possible, but still benefit from direct face-to-face training and support from one of our expert instructors.

How long will it take to complete the BSB50420 course?

The course duration for the Diploma of Leadership & Management is a total of 52 weeks, including all in-class training, self-paced learning, orientation, assessments, and allocated holidays.

How much time will I need to invest each week?

As a full-time course, the Diploma of Leadership & Management requires a commitment of at least 20 hours a week. This includes time for classes, assignments, and self-paced out-of-class study.

Can I get RPL for subjects I've studied before?

Normally, yes – if you’ve already studied one or more of the units in the course as part of another qualification, you will likely be able to apply for a credit transfer for those units. This will mean you won’t be required to take those units as part of your training, which may allow you to complete the course in a shorter time.

In addition, if you’ve been working in a related industry and have training or experience closely aligned with the content of the course, you might be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) for some course content.

In either case, you should talk about it with our enrolments team and discuss your options.

Entry Requirements

Are there any entry requirements for the BSB50420 course?

Although the Diploma of Leadership & Management doesn’t have any prerequisites in terms of prior training or qualifications, there are some basic criteria you need to meet to be able to take part in the course.

  • Suitability interview – You’ll need to take part in a suitability interview, and demonstrate that you’re willing, able, and suitable to undertake the training.
  • Age – You’ll need to be at least 18 years old to enrol
  • Language, literacy and numeracy – You’ll need to show that you’re capable with written and spoken English, and competent with general numeracy. Solis College may administer an LLN test to check this. 
  • Digital literacy – You’ll need to have a working understanding of common technology such as phones and laptops – which are used in the course and the enrolment process.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination – You’ll need to be able to show you’re up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccinations, as required by the current federal, state, and local government regulations.

Some FAQs By Our Students

Most training materials for the BSB50420 course are provided as part of the training. However, you will need access to a few items of common technology, and a few digital resources. You'll need:

  • An Email Account - Both for communicating with Solis College and also for logging in to our online portal, you'll need a working email address where we can contact you. This can be a free account from a site like Google or Yahoo.
  • A Laptop - Both for the training and for general online admin, you'll need access to a working laptop. It'll also need to be able to connect to the internet through WiFi and have current Microsoft Office software (or a close equivalent) installed.
  • A Mobile Phone - For communication with the college, you'll need a working mobile phone with an active SIM card. A smartphone is preferable.

Student's progress throughout the course will be observed through a range of assessment activities. Students should expect to demonstrate their learning through:

  • Direct in-class observation by the trainer during in-class exercises
  • Collaborative group projects
  • Written assessments and tests
  • Individual assignments

 

Students will need to receive a satisfactory grade for all assessments to complete each training unit and the course overall.

If you don't pass one or more of the assessments for a training module, you don't need to panic. You'll be given one additional chance to re-attempt the assignment and receive a satisfactory grade.

If you are successful, you can carry on with your course as normal. However, if you're unable to successfully complete the assignment on your second attempt, you'll need to retake the training unit or you will be unable to graduate the course.

The BSB50420 qualification is nationally recognised. As an official training package under the National Register of Vocational Education and Training, the Diploma is accepted by employers, workplaces and government institutions across Australia.

Like any nationally recognised training course, the Diploma of Leadership & Management qualification is updated regularly. In some cases, employers might not realise that certain training qualifications have been updated or superseded, meaning you might be asked to obtain an older qualification - such as the BSB51918 Diploma of Leadership & Management (rather than the BSB50420). 

Some older versions of this qualification include: 

  • BSB51918 - Diploma of Leadership and Management
  • BSB51915 - Diploma of Leadership and Management
  • BSB51107 - Diploma of Management

 

While these older qualifications may still be valid in the industry, the BSB50420 is the most up-to-date version of this qualification and should be recognised by legitimate employers and workplaces as the updated and current standard.
